8 Pedestrians Struck By Cars In Hartford, New Haven: Reports

The number of pedestrian crashes has been soaring in Connecticut, and another eight people were struck by vehicles in two recent cases.

CONNECTICUT — The number of wrong-way and pedestrian crashes have been soaring in Connecticut and another eight people were struck by vehicles in two recent cases.

On Friday night, four pedestrians were injured in a hit-and-run on Nelson Street in Hartford, WTNH News 8 reported. All four people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police are investigating the hit-and-run.

Also on Friday night, four more people were injured after a car struck three adults and a child near Whalley and Osborn avenues in New Haven, according to the New Haven Register. All four suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the car involved remained at the scene, the Register reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Department of Transportation officials told Fox 61 that some of the contributing factors include folks driving faster and the number of impaired and or district driving incidents are increasing.

The lawfirm of Jacobs & Jacobs noted that between 2017-2021, there were a total of 5,620 pedestrian injuries and 254 fatal injuries in Connecticut. The firm shared the "most dangerous areas for pedestrians throughout the state based on area, town, and street. This interactive map shows where reported pedestrian accidents have occurred, as well as areas with the highest rates of reported pedestrian accidents." (Click here to view the data).
