CT Meteorologist Announces Departure From CT Station

Rachael Jay has been with NBC Connecticut for nearly three years.

CONNECTICUT — NBC Connecticut meteorologist Rachael Jay announced this week that she will be leaving the station in October, after nearly three years.

"Connecticut, our time together is coming to an end," Jay wrote on Facebook. "I am wrapping up my time at NBC Connecticut.

"Thanks to all of you – our viewers, our neighbors – that have tuned in and shared your stories/pictures/reports with me over the last almost 3 years. Thank you for letting me be a nerd and share science with you - from eclipses to space station flyovers to the northern lights and more!"

Jay's last day at the station will be Oct. 20; she did not say where she is headed, but the Penn State graduate said that she will disclose that information in the future.

"The first station I ever walked into was an NBC station," Jay, a Maryland native, wrote. "Since then, I’ve always wanted to work for that same company where I met my mentors in meteorology. I can say now that I’ve accomplished that goal. Working with this amazing, creative team has also given me my first professional awards through Kids Connection.

"I even got to accomplish *another* dream – hosting a kid’s show about science! Funny thing is: I’d never shared that dream with anyone and somehow it STILL happened.

"How could I not be thankful?"

Jay, who has been recognized by the American Meteorological Society as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, received a B.S. in Metrology with a minor in Spanish at Penn State.

She worked at HMTV6 in Hagerstown, Maryland; KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa; and WVEC in Norfolk, Virginia, before her current stint at WVIT-TV in Connecticut.
