Accumulating Snow On Thanksgiving Day Forecast For Some Parts Of CT

Some areas of Connecticut may see accumulating snow on Thanksgiving Day. Here are the latest forecast details on the changing conditions.

CONNECTICUT — It looks like it may be a white Thanksgiving for some Connecticut residents after all.

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists say 1–3 inches of snow accumulation is possible in Litchfield County and western Hartford County on Thanksgiving Day. Everywhere else is expected to see a cold rain.

And if you're traveling outside of Connecticut on Thanksgiving Day, many areas in New England will experience snow too.

"Thanksgiving is our next timeframe of interest," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Precipitation looks to breakout across the state before sunrise and then ramp up in coverage and intensity through the afternoon hours.

"Precipitation may start off as a wintry mix across northern Litchfield and northwest Hartford counties. Precipitation could remain a wintry mix across that zone throughout the day, though temperatures will be marginal and in the middle 30s," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said.

"Elsewhere it’s a cold rain and readings in the upper 30s and lower 40s. During the afternoon hours, milder air filters in ahead of low pressure and temperatures along the shoreline climb into the middle and upper 40s, meanwhile colder air will wrap around and temperatures will drop and cause any rain to switch to snow across Litchfield and western Hartford counties," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said.

"Between about 3-8pm is the best chance of snow, which could accumulate in the 1-3″ range (preliminary), meanwhile a brief change to snow is possible in the evening farther east across the hills in Northeast CT where a coating is possible," added WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

"The wind will also increase during this time frame too. So while most of CT deals with a wet evening, localized areas could experience slick spots, especially NW. Rainfall amounts look to range between .50″-1″ based on the latest data. We have issued a *First Alert Weather Day* given the holiday and potential major impacts this could have on travel," WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said.

"Those traveling outside of the state on Thanksgiving Day should prepare for snowy travel conditions at times across most of NY, western and north central MA, and almost all of VT, NH, and MA. NYC to Hartford to Boston and points south looks mainly wet...Cooler, breezy, with wrap around rain or snow showers remain possible on Black Friday morning, but they should have little to no impact. Any early morning shoppers should plan for cold temperatures!" (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
