CONNECTICUT — Most of the state is dealing with a mix of snow, sleet and rain Monday morning, which has forced numerous districts to delay the opening of schools.

"The precipitation has moved in and is in several forms. Areas closest to the shoreline are seeing plain rain, while inland communities are getting some snow, sleet, and freezing rain/drizzle," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Higher elevations in the hill towns may accumulate up to an inch of snow, while lower elevations closer to I-84 could see a light coating.

"The primary concern, however, is the potential for freezing rain, which could lead to icy conditions on untreated surfaces, especially in valley locations," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "This could cause hazardous road conditions and impact this morning’s commute. By mid-morning, temperatures everywhere will climb above the freezing mark, allowing for melting to occur. Mostly cloudy skies will persist for the afternoon hours with areas of spotty drizzle, before another round of rain is expected overnight into early tomorrow morning."

More rain is forecast Tuesday morning, and then the big story will be the wind gusts. On Tuesday, temperatures will "trend unseasonably mild, reaching the mid to upper 50s! That’s 15-20 degrees above average (the average high for the Hartford Area is 40)," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists.

"By Wednesday, we’re expecting a mix of sun and clouds and for temps to reach the upper 40s. Models have come into better agreement that clouds will increase late day with some rain possible overnight, and into the morning hours of Thursday. Temperatures continue to trend downward during this period with highs back below average in the mid to upper 30s on Friday. We expect conditions to be dry as we close out the work week, but there is a chance for a few snow showers late in the day," said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. (Read/Watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
