Former CT News Anchor Launches Effort To Aid Those With Disabilities
Proceeds from the GoFundMe campaign will benefit Opportunity Works Connecticut.
CONNECTICUT — Keith McGilvery, the former Fox61 morning anchor, is continuing to give back to the "friends and neighbors with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities" for whom he has long advocated.
This week, McGilvery launched a GoFundMe campaign to benefit Opportunity Works Connecticut, a non-profit that supports people with special needs in the state.
As of Wednesday, the page had received more than 75 donations, generating more than $7,000 toward a goal of $10,000.

"While I wait to announce what I will do next professionally, I hope if you believe like I do that making space for people of ALL ABILITIES is important, that you will consider making a donation or sharing this page," McGilvery wrote.
Last week, McGilvery announced his departure from Fox61, where he had worked for the past eight years.

"Your response since I announced I was leaving the Fox 61 Morning News has been overwhelming. I feel the love," McGilvery wrote. "Tens of thousands of you shared in the moment, and I’m still reading hundreds of your heartfelt messages of support and appreciation. I want you to know that our movement to celebrate the people in our community who need us the most will continue."
McGilvery grew up in the Boston area and has a master’s degree in journalism from Emerson College. He helped launch the station's "Making an Impact" campaign, and also reported Fox61 Student News. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from Fordham University, where he also served as student body president and received a Fordham College Alumni Award.
In addition to his reporting, McGilvery was also instrumental in creating the station's annual World Down Syndrome Day Block Party, and he also worked on the Portraits of Autism Campaign.
McGilvery is also going to be honored by Opportunity Works with the organization's 2025 Changemaker Award for his work with those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
"I started a GoFundMe page on Sunday night in response to the overwhelming kindness I received from viewers," McGilvery told Patch. "It is really amazing what our community can do together."
