Snow is expected to impact Connecticut throughout the day today, and meteorologists are predicting more snowfall later this week.

Today’s precipitation will wind down around 8 p.m. this evening, according to WFSB.

By the time it ends, there will be widespread snowfall of one to two inches, with some areas getting three inches of snow. Interior Connecticut will get the higher totals, especially in high terrain close to Massachusetts, while snowfall will be lighter in southern Connecticut, according to WFSB.

“We’re expecting a changeover to a mix or even rain during the afternoon that starts along the shoreline then lifts north,” WFSB reports. “That transition means only a coating to a slushy inch of snow for the I-95 corridor and through the CT river valley.”

Wednesday is expected to be sunny, with high temperatures reaching to around 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. This could melt much of today’s snowfall, reducing the likelihood of a white Christmas.

To be a white Christmas, there has to be at least an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Christmas Day will be cloudy, with high temperatures in the 39 to 41 degree range, the National Weather Service predicts.

The National Weather Service is forecasting that snow will fall in Connecticut starting Friday afternoon, then continuing Friday night and into early Saturday morning. It hasn’t released any estimates for snowfall totals yet.

WFSB is calling it a “timeframe of interest” with a chance for snow starting late Friday.

Meteorologists are also monitoring the potential for weekend precipitation.

“Sunday is another timeframe of interest,” WFSB reports. “We’ll be watching the potential for another system to bring rain/snow to CT.”
