The career change comes over a year after Koppy announced on his Facebook page in November 2023 "a routine bike ride" had landed him in the emergency room.
Koppy wrote at the time he was also undergoing extensive tests that showed a "serious underlying condition" that physicians were still diagnosing.
"My family and I are extremely appreciative to the medical experts who are narrowing in on a precise diagnosis and treatment options," Koppy wrote on Facebook in 2023. "Many thanks to the viewers and social media friends who've reached out since then with kindness and concern regarding my absence. I am also grateful to NBC Connecticut for patiently allowing me to focus on my health."
