Snow Storm Forecast Changes For CT: Here Are The New Updates

Sub-freezing temperatures will impact the state later this week, according to forecasters.

Winter lovers who had hoped for a couple of inches of widespread new snowfall later this week may be disappointed.

WFSB reports that a potential coastal storm for Thursday into Friday isn’t expected to impact the state.

“The ingredients no longer appear to come together in a way that would support an impactful nor’easter (they do so too late, and too far offshore),” WFSB reports.

WFSB meteorologists are continuing to monitor the situation, but as of Tuesday, the station says “the trend is not a good one for snow lovers.”

Michael Main, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany, said Tuesday any development will be out to sea, keeping moisture away from the Connecticut region for the Thursday to Friday timeframe.

In the short term, today will become increasingly cloudy, with showers arriving around midnight. This could briefly mix with snow before becoming plain rain, according to WFSB.

Wednesday during the day and overnight will have showers, so remember your umbrella, WFSB reports. This round of precipitation could flip to snow Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service in Albany indicates it is watching a cold front for Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with initial rain transitioning over to snow. This could mean slippery travel Thursday morning, especially in the northwestern part of Connecticut, according to forecasters.

According to Main, the total snowfall accumulation for the Wednesday to Thursday system is expected to be half an inch to an inch in Litchfield County, and under half an inch for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties. No accumulation is expected for the southern half of Connecticut.

Thursday will become clear as the day progresses, with highs in the 30s, followed by colder temperatures for Friday, according to WFSB.

“It’s our Next Big Thing as sub-freezing temps will feel even colder with the breeze,” WFSB reports. “In the morning, wind chill values could go as low as the sub-zero and single digits, then in the afternoon recover to between 15 and 25!”

The National Weather Service predicts Thursday night will see low temperatures dip down to the teens. Friday will be mostly sunny and windy, with a high of around 30 to 33 degrees.

WFSB reports Saturday will be dry with highs in the 40s, followed by a chillier Sunday, which brings a chance for “isolated snow showers.”
