Yankee National Party Seeks Ballot Access With Petition Filed To CT Sec State

The Yankee National Party has filed paperwork to run candidates in Connecticut's 2025 elections at all levels.

CONNECTICUT — The Connecticut chapter of the Yankee National Party has officially submitted its completed party designation petition to the Secretary of the State’s Office, party officials announced Thursday.

Once accepted, the petition grants the center-left, social democratic party legal standing to endorse and run candidates in Connecticut’s local, state and federal elections, including races for governor, U.S. Senate and House, state legislature, and municipal positions in more than a dozen towns.

The Yankee National Party, or YNP, describes itself as an anti-fascist and anti-racist regional political organization focused on what it calls "northeastern values," including democracy, sustainability, empathy and independence. Founded in late 2024, the party has launched chapters in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine and has begun endorsing candidates for the 2025 election cycle.

According to the party, its Massachusetts chapter has already endorsed two candidates: Randy Dudek for the Fall River School Committee and Dr. Peter Hsu for Cambridge City Council. Connecticut's chapter is also in early conversations with potential candidates and has submitted an application for nominating petitions on behalf of a prospective Waterford candidate.

The YNP says it is open to cross-endorsing candidates from other parties who agree with its core principles and code of ethics. It is also the only active party in the region that requires its candidates to formally adhere to a code of ethics, party officials said.

The group is working toward recognition as a minor or major party under Connecticut election law, which requires verified petition signatures and ballot success at the statewide level. Until then, the YNP will operate as a political action committee.

The Connecticut petition includes coverage for dozens of elected positions, ranging from president and U.S. senator to mayor, registrar of voters, and zoning board members in towns such as Waterford, Groton, and New London.
