MCCA Awarded $100,000 to Launch Vivitrol Program for Opiate Addiction

MCAA has locations in Bethel, Danbury, New Milford, Ridgefield and surrounding towns to help those battling substance abuse.

BETHEL, CT — MCCA, a 501(c)3 that helps people battling substance addiction and their families, is launching a new program on July 1 to offer Vivitrol, an opioid addiction treatment, to clients at their Danbury outpatient facility. The program is being funded by a $100,000 grant from the Hanley Family Foundation.

The charity was also recently awarded a grant to help New Milford area residents struggling with heroin addiction.

MCCA will expand treatment options to meet the growing need in the area. The nonprofit said in a statement that deaths in Connecticut from heroin and opioid overdose doubled in the past three years, with over 500 people dying from overdoses.

Joe Sullivan, MCCA’s President and CEO, stated, “We in Connecticut have to commit resources to what science tells us is effective in treating opiate addiction. Hopefully, this support from a Florida-based family foundation can stimulate a greater commitment of public and private financing within our own state.”

Vivitrol (also known as Naltrexone) is a medication that stops cravings by blocking opioid receptors in the body to prevent users from getting high, according to MCAA, who stated that one intramuscular injection is effective for up to 30 days.
