Brookfield's Capital Budget Passes

The vote held on July 19 was to determine the appropriation of $2,835,000 to fund the costs of the town and school improvements.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Town of Brookfield Capital Budget passed by a measure of 615 - 381, the Town announced on their website.

The vote held on July 19 was to determine the appropriation of $2,835,000 to fund the costs of the town and school improvements for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Eileen Straiton, newly elected chair of the Brookfield Democratic Town Committee said, “Brookfield voters made it clear in November that they want the needs of the schools and the town to be heard and addressed. The Brookfield DTC is proud of our newly elected team for helping to bridge the gap, ensuring that the town budget was approved. While there were some capital projects that lost important funding, this is a wonderful start that takes into consideration the needs of our entire community. Our team is doing what they promised they would do.”

Steve Dunn, Sue Slater, John Lucas, Sean Hathorn and Mark Zerbe saidin a joint statement earlier this month, "We will be working hard to create a well thought out 10-year capital and debt plan this summer. We need to gradually increase expenditures on maintenance for capital items in the operating budget and holistically plan out the use of debt to fund major projects like a new library, possible replacement or upgrade to Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, and police and fire capital needs."
