Crash Closes Junction Road, Leads to DUI Charge

A Norwalk woman was charged after driving off the road and breaking a utility pole.

Officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls regarding a motor vehicle crash on Junction Road around 10:44 p.m. on Nov. 21.

Police located a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole, causing damage to both the pole and vehicle and closing Junction Road.

An investigation revealed that the driver, Meghann Plunkett, 22, of Richards Lane 1, Norwalk, crossed over the center of the road while negotiating a right curve and collided with the utility pole on the left side of the roadway.

Plunkett failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested and charged with operating under the influence, failure to keep right on a curve, distracted driving and failure to maintain mandatory security requirements.

She was released on $500 bond with a court date scheduled for Dec. 3.

Junction Road remained closed for several hours until the damaged utility pole was repaired.
