The map above shows 267 individual ratings for all 100 miles of Brookfield roads as of the end of the 2013 paving season.

The ratings — compiled by the Public Works Department — are based on six criteria averaged to give the Pavement Condition Index (PCI).

Streets are rated on surface condition (cracks), sub-base condition (foundation structure), drainage, deterioration (surface texture loss) and riding quality (roughness and smoothness of ride at normal speed in an average passenger vehicle).

Road Ratings


0-20 — Very Poor: Partial or complete reconstruction is necessary

20-40 — Poor: Extensive maintenance work (overlay or surface treatment) needed to prolong life span

40-60 — Fair: A moderate amount of routine pavement maintenance to extend life span

60-80 — Good: Various minor maintenance to upgrade and prolong life span

80-100 — Very Good: Good roads
