Paramedics May be Coming to Canton
The Board of Selectmen has received reports that propose dramatic changes to the volunteer ambulance service.

The Board of Selectmen has received reports that propose dramatic changes to the volunteer ambulance service, reports the Hartford Courant.
Most recently, town fire and ambulance officials proposed that the service include paramedics.

The town ambulance service is currently staffed with volunteers who have either the basic life saving or advanced emergency medical technician certifications, both of which are below the paramedic level. When needed, paramedics are called in from UConn Health in Farmington.
By next summer, the state will discontinue the advanced emergency medical technician certification for ambulance staff that town has relied on.

Chief Administrative Officer Robert Skinner is expected to propose changes to the ambulances in the next couple of months.
