Are Cheshire School Cafeterias Clean?

Most of the town's schools got good "grades" for the cleanliness of their cafeterias. But one location had dead flies and another allowed children to touch food, causing contamination concerns.

Restaurants are routinely subjected to inspections from state and local health departments to ensure sanitary conditions, but what about the food school children are eating?

The New Haven Independent recently compiled data on school cafeterias statewide and posted the results on their site.

Cheshire's results can be found here.

The lowest scores came from the cafeteria in the private seminary run by the Legionaries of Christ on Oak Avenue. The Chesprocott Health District inspection showed that sinks were unclean and the presence of dead and live flies were noted.

Cheshire Academy was cited for minor concerns such as children being allowed to handle food. It was also noted that dirty containers were used to store clean utensils.
