Cheshire is about to become the home of one of the largest holistic pet food retailers in the northeast.
Thomaston Feed will open around Oct. 1 in the South Main Street building across from McDonalds. The company specializes in holistic food, supplements and supplies for pets and its owner, Mark Poveromo, is the author of a book on the subject, "To Your Dog's Health!: Canine Nutrition and Recent Trends Within the Pet Food Industry."
They will start moving in to the building on Sept. 16 and opening is scheduled for Oct. 1, Poveromo announced on the Thomaston Feed Facebook page. The store will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be closed on Sundays.
In addition to selling food and supplies, the store also will offer a "Wellness Consultation Program" that tailors nutrition to an individual dog's needs, according to the store's website. The package includes three hours of individual consultation with the dog and costs $250.
