Handful of Electric Customers Still Without Power After Car Topples Utility Pole (Update)
A detour on busy Route 10 will greet commuters this evening as utility crews continue to replace wires that were downed when a car hit a utility pole Friday morning.

Traffic is still being detoured around an accident scene on South Main Street eight hours after a car toppled a utility pole, according to .
The one-car accident at about 8:30 a.m. Friday at 1175 South Main St. injured one person, police said.
CL&P spokesman Mitch Gross said this afternoon that the accident caused extensive damage. "We have to rebuild a section of the circuit. The goal is to have the power back on by early evening," he said.

As of 4:30 p.m., Gross said about 20 customers still were without power.
The state Department of Transportation closed the street Friday morning after 40 gallons of oil spilled from a transformer. Gross said the oil was tested and it is not hazardous. Clean-up crews finished their work about 4:15 p.m.

The detour routed traffic off South Main Street, also called Route 10, onto King Road and then to North Brooksvale Road before allowing motorists back onto South Main Street.
The name of the driver and the extent of the injuries was not available from the police Friday afternoon.
