Cheshire Academy opened the 2022-2023 school year with 343 students enrolled—up nearly 15 percent from last year. In this impressive student body are individuals with diverse backgrounds, stories, interests, ambitions, and goals, hailing from all across Connecticut, throughout the U.S., and around the globe. You can read more about some of the school’s newest students below.

This uptick in enrollment is testament in part to the school’s pledge to provide a priceless education, priced less. In October 2021, Cheshire Academy announced its bold move to cut tuition for all students, starting in the 2022-2023 academic year, to better align tuition with the income levels of more families within the region. Day tuition was reduced by one third and boarding tuition by 10 percent. It was the school’s strategic move to make CA more reasonably priced, affordable, and accessible for more families and give a wider range of students the opportunity to experience CA—and it’s working, especially for local families.

Megan, an incoming 9th-grade student from Wolcott, Connecticut, is looking forward to beginning her high school experience at Cheshire Academy. A driven student, Megan is looking most forward to the International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme, an esteemed and rigorous academic curriculum of which Cheshire Academy is proud to be the only independent boarding school in Connecticut to offer to 11th and 12th grade students.

An aspiring interior designer, the relationships and trust built between faculty and students stood out to Megan while on her tour of campus. She is eager to demonstrate her athletic prowess as a student-athlete, contributing to her classmates’ success and ensuring everyone plays to the best of their abilities.

A 10th-grade student from Hamden, Connecticut, Ronan became interested in Cheshire Academy when his summer tennis program used the school’s facilities. With goals to live abroad while attending college, travel the world, and own his own business, Ronan is excited to learn from the international perspectives available at CA and receive one-to-one attention from the school’s dedicated College Counseling Office team.

While at CA, Ronan hopes to achieve academic freedom to attend his top colleges and universities. When he’s not studying, he will be found on the tennis court, honing his skills as a student-athlete, and building relationships with his teammates.

Olivia, an 11th-grade student from Hamden, Connecticut, was looking for a new school to provide her with new and unique opportunities. She chose Cheshire Academy because of the school’s positive atmosphere, sense of community and familiarity, and because it’s an environment in which learning is celebrated.

With goals to become a physician, Olivia intends to challenge herself and her way of thinking through CA’s International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme. Olivia’s day will not end at the conclusion of the last academic course; in fact, she plans to be an integral member of the soccer team, and participate in numerous extracurricular activities and clubs.

Miabella is joining Cheshire Academy as a postgraduate student looking to better her skills on the basketball court. Having recovered from hip surgery and a loss of playtime due to COVID-19, Miabella is eager and ready to get back on the court this winter athletics season.

While visiting CA, she felt welcomed by the community, including by some of her new teammates. When she’s not running drills, Miabella will be enriching herself in CA’s diverse student base, determining her passions, reaching her goals, and becoming part of the community. She currently has plans to major in business, while minoring in Spanish and psychology. She hopes that her postgraduate year will help her narrow down which field of business she wants to study.
