Cheshire Soldier Injured in Afghanistan
Nineteen-year-old Johsua Budd was critically injured by an IED explosion. A new group called Budd's Buddies has formed to support him when he returns home.
Cheshire's Joshua Budd, 19, was seriously injured while serving with the US Army in Afghanistan on July 18.
Budd was on patrol about two weeks ago when his unit was struck an improvised explosive device (IED). As a result, Budd lost one leg, severely fractured his other leg, and suffered other serious internal injuries. He was returned to the United States and is now being treated at a hospital in Maryland.
In the 3 months that Budd was in Afghanistan, he experienced three IED-related attacks. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in one IED incident. He was recently nominated for the Medal of Valor for his actions in rendering care to fellow injured soldiers after a second IED explosion while under heavy gunfire from insurgents.
