Former Cheshire Public Works Employee Awarded $60K in Slander Case

Public Works Supervisor accused of slander when he called police to investigate a theft at the public works garage.

A Superior Court Judge in Meriden issued a ruling that determined Public Works Supervisor Mark Cunningham had slandered Richard Guerrera, a maintainer for 18 years, according to the Republican-American.

Cunningham called police to investigate a television theft from the public works garage back in 2007, the Rep-Am reported. Guerrera reportedly took the television home because it was considered “rubbish.”

Guerrera accused Cunningham of slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress, according to the Rep-Am. The court dismissed the emotional distress charges but ruled in favor of the slander charge because the two men reportedly had a “poor working relationship.”
