High Winds Whip Torn Pool Bubble
Wind gusts up to 40 miles-per-hour pulled at the collapsed fabric bubble over the Cheshire Community Pool on Saturday, sending hanging lamps flying.
A full report on the status of collapsed bubble at the Cheshire Community Pool will soon be reviewed by the town's insurance company said Parks and Recreation Director Robert Ceccolini.
If the insurer, Great American Insurance Group of Cincinnati, decides the bubble must be repaired, Ceccolini said the work would most likely begin on Feb. 28 when a rigging crew would attempt to lift the fabric off the pool using cranes and/or fork lifts.
"We're at (insurer's) mercy, we're waiting to hear, that's the next step," Ceccolini said recently. "Can it be blown back up, and is it worth the money to even attempt that?" he wondered.

The bubble collapsed on Jan. 12 after heavy snow caused the all-weather fabric cover over the Olympic-size pool to rip and deflate. Cancellation of swimming and exercise courses have cost the town about $40,000 in refunds.
