Inmates Helping Restore Cheshire Correctional Institution

Non-violent offenders who exhibit good behavior are allowed to work as laborers at the prison.

Some of the offices at Cheshire Correctional Institution were in bad shape. That is, until a group of prisoners went through them.

The Cheshire Citizen reports that prisoners are working as laborers to fix up aging offices at the correctional facility. The men are carefully screened and must exhibit good behavior to earn a job working as a laborer.

“Basically, the buildings are pretty old and I think people are glad to see we’re cleaning up our buildings,” District Administrator Mike LaJoie told the newspaper. “Plus, instead of having the inmates just sitting there on their bunks, they’re learning skilled labor while they’re incarcerated.”
