New State Funds Mean Cheshire Will Pay Only $340k For Linear Trail Extension

The town will only pay 10 percent of the $3.4 million project, instead of 20 percent, as originally expected.

The Town of Cheshire will pay $340,000 less than what they original anticipated to extend the Linear Trail from Cornwall Ave to the Southington line.

Originally, the town was going to have to pay $680,000 - or 20 percent - of the $3.4 million project to extend the bike trail to Southington, with the federal government paying for the rest. However, the New Haven Register reports that now the state will kick in 10 percent, meaning the town will only have to pay $340,000 to extend the bike trail.

Before, the town was going to have to hold a referendum to extend the trail. However, now, because the amount is under $340,000, the town will avoid a referendum, according to the newspaper.
