Obituary: Mary Key Dollard Button, 83, of Cheshire
Mary, known as gentile, compassionate and loving, was a dedicated registered nurse and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

CHESHIRE, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mary Key Dollard Button of both Ormand Beach Florida and Cheshire, CT after a lengthy courageous battle with Lymphoma.
Mary passed away peacefully in her home in Cheshire on January 8, 2022, with her loving husband of 61 years, Donald C. Button by her side.
Mary was born in New York City on October 13th, 1938, a daughter of the late William A.S. Dollard and Mary Hobart Duel Dollard. She graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield in 1958 where she participated in the Future Nurses of America, Jr. Red Cross, Thespians and was a member of the National Honor Society for acting.
After High School Mary enrolled in the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN certification in 1961. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Norwalk Hospital and continued at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, NY, as well as the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital in CT. She furthered her education at St. Joseph’s College of Maine and the Northwestern Connecticut Community College earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Arts with a concentration in Psychology.
Mary was an excellent nurse, she was a wonderfully gentile, compassionate person who always sought to see the best in everyone she knew. She was an avid reader and life-long learner and enjoyed country walks and visiting museums and botanical gardens wherever she and Don travelled.
Mary especially loved spending time with her family and friends and sharing stories of her childhood and of her many adventures with Don.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her son, Glen Button and his wife, Donna; her grandchildren, Jared and Megan; her sisters, Irene (Victor) Gentile of Florida and Sheila Pavlis of Hamden; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her son, Stuart C. Button.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Connecticut Hospice and Opal Stork Home Care for the compassionate and attentive care they provided to Mary and her family.
Mary’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main Street Ext. on Sunday, January 23rd from 1pm-3pm immediately followed by a memorial service.
