State Policeman to Join Survivor?
Connecticut State Police public information officer Lt. J. Paul Vance will audition next week for a role on the reality show "Survivor."
Known in the state as the spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, Lt. J. Paul Vance's future television appearances could include close-ups from a remote island.
Vance will join hundreds Wednesday at Foxwoods Resort Casino hoping that two minutes is all it will take for the producers of the "Survivor" reality show to pick him as a cast member for next season's show.
"They asked me if I'd go down and interview for it and I said, 'If I can, I will,'" Vance said this week.

On Tuesday, Vance's son J. Paul Vance Jr. called the "Chaz & AJ In The Morning" show on WPLR-FM to nominate his dad to represent the state on next season's Survivor.
Vance called back on Wednesday to say that his wife had said it was okay for him to give it a try. You can hear the exchange on this WPLR podcast.

Vance said he may wear a grass skirt along with with his state police hat.
According to the candidate application, Vance and others will be judged on the following criteria and must possess these traits:
- Strong-willed
- Outgoing
- Adventurous
- Physically and mentally adept
- Adaptable to new environments
- Interesting lifestyles, backgrounds and personalities
When asked what skills he possesses that make him a strong candidate, Vance answered that he is "very good at police work, been doing that for a very, very long time." He added that he's also been married for 40 years, to which the radio personalities said he must be good at team building and negotiations.
"It's interesting that they're coming to Connecticut to find someone. Some resident will be chosen," he said, adding that he won't be upset if he doesn't make the cut. He added that he likes luxury of hot and cold running water.
Foxwoods and WFSB TV Channel 3 are hosting the afternoon of auditions with WPLR.
If you're interested and think you can beat the competition, get to the Grand Pequot Ballroom atFoxwoods Resort Casino on Wednesday. The first 300 people are guaranteed an audition, the rest will have to wait in line and hope they make it through by the 5 p.m. cutoff.
