Town Councilor Giddings' Condition Upgraded

Anne Giddings remains hospitalized at St. Mary's Hospital but she is no longer in the Critical Care Unit.

Town Councilor Anne Giddings has been transferred from the Critical Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital  to an "in-patient floor," nearly a month after she was injured in a one-car accident near her home on Boulder Road.

A spokesperson for the hospital in Waterbury said that Giddings, 66,  is now being treated in  a unit where critical care is not required.

The police report on the March 22 accident states that Giddings was semi-conscious when rescue units arrived and did not remember the accident. The police report shows her car rolled onto its roof after it left the road, went up a steep bank and hit a telephone pole, which broke in half.

Giddings home is on a hilly and curvy road that runs through old farm fields between Cheshire and Wallingford.

Giddings had just left a meeting at Town Hall when the accident occurred. The day before the accident Giddings told another councilor that she wasn't feeling well and perhaps had the flu.

Giddings, a Republican, is in her first term on the Town Council. Her hospitalization came as the town budget workshops were underway, leaving her absent from the budget review process. The council approved the budget on April 12 in a 6-2 vote along  party lines.
