Danbury Eatery Shutters, But Whispers Of A Comeback

The comfort food stronghold checked out officially on Facebook, but management vows "it's not goodbye."

DANBURY, CT — There's one less comfort food haven in Danbury.

The Danbury Family Diner closed its Danbury Fair Mall location on Aug. 24, according to a post on its social media.

"Thank you to each and everyone of our valued customers who have become more like family," the management posted. "It's been an honor to serve your family and friends."

The cooking fires may be turned off at the Mall diner, but there's still a spark. The owners said Aug. 24 would be the eatery's "last day, but it's not a goodbye. We are leaving with hopes to see you again to keep serving you and your families with our delicious dishes."

A 2023 feature in the periodical Tribuna indicated the diner opened in February of 2020, under the stewardship of restaurateur Andy Garcia, who also owned Chaparro’s Family Restaurant on West Street.

Fans of the diner took to its Facebook page to commiserate.

"Very sad to see this - was a great place for an early breakfast close to work as well as a great spot to sit and relax, have a great meal without having to sit in the food court - sorry to see you go," one comfort food fan posted.

Another diner foodie fretted, "That’s a shame … been there a bunch of times including this morning … food was always great! Best of luck!"

Along with the classic diner staples of short stacks, omelets and burgers, the menu at the Danbury Family Diner smartly drifted toward Mexican, Brazilian and Guatemalan local favorites.
