Danbury Firefighters Contain Early Morning Blaze At Liberty Street Building
Danbury crews evacuated residents and quickly knocked down an early morning fire at a Liberty Street building.

DANBURY, CT — Danbury firefighters evacuated about a dozen residents and quickly extinguished a blaze inside a Liberty Street building early Sunday morning, officials said.
The fire department said crews were called to 51 Liberty St. around 3:54 a.m. and found flames in the ceiling and roof area above the kitchen of a one-story rear addition to the three-story brick building. The structure houses a restaurant on the first floor, with apartments above.
Deputy Chief Jaime Schiller, leading the “A” platoon, directed firefighters who simultaneously evacuated residents and stretched hose lines to contain the blaze. The fire was knocked down within minutes using two hose lines.

No residents were injured, and none were displaced, according to the department.
Danbury police assisted by closing Liberty Street at Patriot Drive and helping residents during the evacuation, including with language translation. Danbury EMS stood by to support firefighter rehabilitation needs.

Fire units responding included Car 30, TAC 1, Engines 22, 23 and 24, Truck 1 and Squad 21. Volunteer Squad 19 provided lighting for the fire marshal’s office, which is investigating the cause.
The city’s building and health departments were notified. Liberty Street was reopened by 6 a.m., officials said.
