Danbury Man Charged in White Plains-Based State Police Drug Bust

3 charged, 1.5 kilograms of heroin, 4 kilograms of "ice" seized.

A Danbury man was charged in a major New York drug bust.

As part of an ongoing investigation into the sale of illegal drugs in the New York City area, the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit based in White Plains has charged three men with drug and weapons charges.

Arrested were:
-Miguel Mercado, 34, Reading, PA
-Henry Nunez, 37, Brooklyn
-Diego Estevez, 39, Danbury, CT

The trio was found in the Bronx in possession of approximately 3 kilograms of heroin, police said. A search on a 96th Street, Queens, residence resulted in the seizure of another 1.5 kilograms of heroin, approximately 4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (a smokeable form of methamphetamine, known as "ice"), a loaded 9mm handgun and numerous types of drug paraphernalia consistent with a drug packaging operation, according to investigators.

The men were all charged with:

-2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, a Class A-1 Felony

-2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree-Intent to Sell, a Class B Felony

-1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony

-1 count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E Felony

-1 count of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor

All three were being held by police for arraignement.
