Danbury Museum to Host 'A Revolutionary Weekend'
The weekend will include a number of free and special events.

From The Danbury Museum & Historical Society: The Danbury Museum & Historical Society will “Remember the Raid” with a Revolutionary Weekend of free and special events happening Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23, 2017.
On Thursday, April 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., grab your cocked hat and buckled shoes, your quill pen and paper for a visit to Connecticut’s Revolutionary past. Eric Chandler presents, Connecticut During the Revolutionary War: Provision State &Arsenal of the Revolution.
Learn more about Connecticut's extraordinary role in the American War for Independence and how the government, people, industry and inventiveness helped pave the way to a remarkable victory against the superpower of the 18th Century. This lecture and PowerPoint presentation runs about 1 hour; followed by a Q&A session. Thanks to our friends from The Danbury Library for co-sponsoring this event. Eric Chandler has been involved in American Revolutionary War Living History since 1974. He has portrayed infantry, light infantry, whale-boat raider and both mounted and dismounted dragoons.

Would you like to learn more about Danbury's Revolutionary War history? Are you searching for your Rev War roots? Check out the museum's Archives After Dark on Friday, April 21 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Browse microfilm rolls, local history subject files, historic photos, family surname files and other research library collections. Pose questions, conduct research, get guidance and have FUN at this late night search and research session with Executive Director and City Historian Brigid Guertin, Research Specialist Diane Hassan and Collections Manager Michele Amundsen. On Saturday, April 22, the museum will offer free tours of the historic buildings located on our Main Street campus, including; The John & Mary Rider House (c. 1785), The John Dodd Hat Shop (c. 1790), The Marian Anderson Studio and The Little Red Schoolhouse, from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m. Pay a visit and spend some time learning more about local history.

Gather for Cocktails and Conversation on Saturday, April 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 for “Why Danbury?” DMHSA board member, Robert Young, will facilitate and lead a discussion about Danbury's role as a supply depot for the Continental Army and the reasons why the British felt the need to raid our town on April 26, 1777. This event is free and open to all.
The Mary Wooster Chapter of the Daughters of The American Revolution are hosting a fundraiser on Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at The Danbury Museum. The Not-So- Good-Life of the Colonial Goodwife, featuring Velya-Janz- Urba, is a funny, frank and interactive presentation about little-known issues faced by New England's colonial women. Tickets are $10.00 per person and include the program, light refreshments and a raffle. Advance registration is required.
