Danbury Police Crank Up Distracted Driving Enforcement
A continuation of an initiative started in early April, police will be cranking up enforcement of distracted driving.
DANBURY, CT — Local police and the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office are cranking up enforcement and continuing the "U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY" campaign. Police are cracking down on drivers that choose to text, talk or distract themselves while driving.
Officials say there was a 17 percent drop in mobile phone use by drivers at observation locations where police conducted enforcement. However, during the April campaign, almost 12,000 citations were issued to distracted drivers.
The second part of the campaign takes place starting Wednesday and through Aug. 16.
