Danbury Police Warn Of Eversource Scam

Police say scammers pose as Eversource customers and demand payments.

The Danbury Police Department has received an increase in complaints from local companies. The companies are receiving phone calls from callers purporting to represent Eversource Electric. The callers inform the companies that they will shut off their electricity immediately if they do not make an payment over the phone.

1. Eversource representatives never ask for instant payment in person or over the phone.

2. Eversource representatives do not require the use of prepaid debit cards (such as Green Dot MoneyPak, Vanilla or Reloadit).

3. Customers who are scheduled for disconnection due to nonpayment receive written notice via the U.S. mail which includes the actions they can take to maintain service.

Connecticut residents who receive such a call, should hang up and contact Eversource Electric directly at 800-286-2000.
