Danbury Real Estate Attorney Arrested for Mortgage Fraud Seeks Reinstatement to Bar: Report
According to the U.S. Attorney's office, a former Danbury attorney created false documentation in connection with loan closings. BREAKING

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury attorney who was arrested and served four years federal prison time for mortgage fraud is seeking reinstatement to the bar in Connecticut, according to CT Law Tribune. Lucy DeMelo, 43, submitted a formal application for reinstatement to the bar in Superior Court which will be heard on Oct. 7 at Litchfield Superior Court, according to the report.
According to the U.S. Attorney's office, DeMelo created false documentation and made other misrepresentations and falsely claimed she was in possession of down payment funds deposited by prospective buyers to qualify buyers for mortgage loans, according to the report. Many of the loans ended up in default, causing lenders to foreclose on the properties.
