Danbury's UNIT Cracks Down on Shopping Carts

The Unified Neighborhood Inspection Team collected 32 shopping carts last week from downtown Danbury, and stored them at the Public Works facility on Newtown Road.

"They're parking them on lawns like cars, they're in driveways and they're a blight in the neighborhood," said Rich Antous, the UNIT's downtown liaison.

The city is collecting the carts and will charge the grocery store $12 to return them.

Shawn Stillman, the UNIT director, said the goal isn't to collect the $12. The goal is to clear downtown Danbury of the carts. Stillman said he is hoping the grocery stores will start keeping better track of their carts.
