Danbury Section 8 Housing Lawsuit Settled: Report

A tenant alleged that a leasing agent and landlord denied her a rental unit due to her having a section 8 voucher.

DANBURY, CT — A local landlord and a tenant accusing discrimination have agreed on a settlement, reports the News Times. Barbara Capri alleged she was denied a rental unit by owner Barbara Blauvelt and leasing agent Alfred Surprenant because she had a Section 8 housing voucher.

The two parties agreed on a $50,000 settlement, according to the report. Surprenant allegedly told Capri's real estate agent Section 8 vouchers were not accepted at the townhouse complex on South Street.

Surprenant and Blauvelt argued Capri was denied due to bad credit. An attorney for the two told the News-Times that as part of the settlement, his clients didn't admit any wrongdoing. He stated one of his clients is very elderly and wanted to get it over with.
