“The Red Cross has lost 40 percent of its donor base in the last few years due to the Covid situation and the fact that a lot of our donor base has aged out,” said Camie Mollica, a biomedical donor recruitment account manager for the Red Cross. “Twenty years ago, high schools were our largest blood sources so we are trying to push that again.”
The drive took place on March 11 and 44 people booked appointments – a combination of students, school staff and members of the community. Mollica said they hope to get 20 productive units from the event since some are ruled out due to medical conditions, medication or low iron levels. “That is fantastic and a good showing,” she said.

“This is our eleventh year hosting the blood drive,” said Alexa Durkin, Immaculate’s Student Council advisor. “We wanted to support the community and give students an opportunity to give back. Our Mustangs were very enthusiastic about it!”
