Mother of Abandoned Baby in Danbury Arrested
BREAKING: A newborn baby boy was left alone behind the Zaytuna Grocery Store in Danbury back in May.

DANBURY, CT — The mother of a newborn baby boy that was found abandoned behind a grocery store on Main Street turned herself into police Thursday. Anny Castillo, 22, of Danbury faces multiple charges after police say she left her newborn baby boy behind the Zaytuna Grocery Store on May 21.
Castillo was charged with abandonment of a child under the age of six and cruelty to persons.
Police say they responded to a call on May 21 for a baby left in the bushes behind a grocery store. The baby was found wrapped in clothing with it's umbilical chord still attached. Emergency crews had to clamp down on the cord when he was found in the bushes behind the store. The baby was rushed to Danbury Hospital's Neo Natal care unit.

The discovery of the baby boy sparked a search for Castillo, who was found five days later on May 26. She was also treated at Danbury Hospital.
The warrant for her arrest came after an investigation by the department's Special Victims Unit. Castillo was released on a $1,500 bond and is due in Danbury Superior Court Friday morning.
