1 Dead, 2 Injured In 2-Vehicle Portland Crash Saturday: Police
Police say a motorist who died in the crash had fled from a Glastonbury officer.
PORTLAND, CT — A woman was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route 17.
The accident happened around 11:45 a.m. on Glastonbury Turnpike, or Route 17, in the vicinity of Overlook Court, according to police.
Police said the woman was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry southbound when she lost control of her vehicle, which went sideways in the road.

Emergency medical personnel treated the two occupants of the other vehicle on scene, and they were transported to an area hospital for additional treatment of “unspecified injuries,” police said.
Before the Portland crash, Glastonbury police had received a complaint of a female driver slumped over the steering wheel of the Camry at the intersection of Main Street, or Route 17, and Great Pond Road.
A Glastonbury police officer attempted to make contact with the driver by knocking on her window. Police said the driver became alert, and then drove away, ignoring the officer’s commands to stop.
The officer followed and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued driving into Portland, according to police. When the driver reached the Portland town line, the Glastonbury officer “disengaged with the vehicle,” police said. The crash happened shortly afterward.
Police have not yet released identities of those involved, pending notification of families.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Witnesses are asked to contact Portland Police Officer Joshua Bailey at 860-342-6780.
