Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back and get involved in your community. Fortunately for folks in the East Hampton-Portland area, there’s no shortage of organizations nearby that would love to have your help.

Here are five outstanding volunteer organizations in the East Hampton-Portland area.

1. Chatham Historical Society: Since 1963, the Chatham Historical Society has been working to preserve local history through its museum, school house and events. The organization hosts an annual Antique Appraisal Day, monthly speakers and programs for elementary school students. Learn more at chathamhistoricalct.org.

2. East Hampton Meals on Wheels: With over 300 meals delivered each week to community members, East Hampton Meals on Wheels supports the area with nutritious meals and safety checks for vulnerable residents. Meals are delivered Monday-Friday and on every major holiday except New Year's Day. Weekend meals are available by request and are delivered on Fridays. Learn more at ehmealsonwheels.org.

3. East Hampton Ambulance Association Inc.: For nearly 60 years, this organization has provided 24-hour service to area residents. Comprised of a crew of trained and dedicated volunteers, this organization also provides support for local events and standby coverage for nearby towns. Learn more at ehems.org.

4. Friends of the Portland Library: This volunteer organization is dedicated to supporting the Portland Library and promoting its services and events to the community. 5. Epoch Arts: Dedicated to transforming the lives of young people through art, this organization stages performances and hosts, a tag sale and annual art show. During the fall months, students create and perform in a haunted house. Learn more at epocharts.org.
