Car Crashes Into Historic Landmark In Portland: FD
The building sustained significant damage in the early Monday crash, according to fire officials.

PORTLAND, CT — The historic Penfield Hill Schoolhouse sustained significant damage Monday when a car smashed into it, according to the fire department.
The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning, in the vicinity of Penfield Hill Road and Pepperidge Road, fire officials said, in a Facebook post.
The Portland Historical Society also posted about the accident on its Facebook page, along with an image of a circular hole in the brick structure where the car crashed into it.

“We hope everyone is ok and are sending our best wishes to this Portland landmark for a speedy recovery,” the post reads.
Portland firefighters had a busy day overall on Monday.

They also responded to a rollover accident around 5 p.m. on Airline Avenue, with an occupant still inside the vehicle, firefighters said.
Portland was also asked to assist Middletown with station coverage as firefighters in that city battled a second alarm fire at a condominium complex Monday afternoon.
