Crews Respond To Gas Leak In Portland

Multiple area agencies responded to the call Sunday night.

PORTLAND, CT —First responders dealt with a gas leak in Portland on Sunday night.

A potential gas leak was reported in the area of 33 Stephen Tom Road at 8:30 p.m., according to the Portland Fire Department.

Deputy Chief Ryan Sweeney arrived and determined that there was an an active propane leak coming from an underground 1,000 gallon tank.

Tankers from East Hampton, Westfield, and Glastonbury responded.

Firefighters stretched hose lines and established a water supply. Crews were sent out to meter the nearby properties.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded as well, which sent a mobile propane response trailer.

"They were able to stop the leak and make a repair," the fire department wrote on Facebook. "We want to thank the CT DEEP for their help and response, as well as our mutual aid partners for standing by and helping to provide thousands of gallons of water to ensure we had a safe scene."

Crews operated at the gas leak for just under three hours. No injuries were reported.
