EAST HAMPTON, CT — East Hampton voted to hire three additional school security guards at a Tuesday night town meeting, WTNH News-8 reported. The measure, which received support from about 100 people, included appropriating $85,000 from the 2023 fiscal year budget to hire, train, equip, and employ the three guards.

In August, the East Hampton Board of Education approved plans to add armed guards at the district's middle and elementary schools. East Hampton High School has had an armed security officer since 2019.

Several other school districts across the state have voted to hire security in recent months, including New Milford, Montville, and Lyme-Old Lyme.
