East Hampton Voters Reject Third Budget Proposal

The margin of defeat increased by more than a hundred during this voting round.

East Hampton residents rejected a third budget proposal Wednesday at referendum, with the outcome being 1,230 no to 1,076 yes, the Middletown Press reported.

The last rejected budget did not include any more cuts, and instead the state said they would rely on additional state revenues included in Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget proposal, and added savings from employee benefits, which evidently didn’t go over well with voters at the polls, the Press reported.

East Hampton town and residents demanded a $200,000 reduction, while the proposal only offered $66,000 for the fiscal year which begins July 1, the Press reported.
