Man Arrested On Sexual Assault, Kidnapping Charges: Portland Police

The man was arrested following an extensive investigation, according to police.

PORTLAND, CT — A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a sexual assault in Portland in July, according to police.

Police responded on July 27 to a report of a sexual assault.

The victim was treated at Middlesex Hospital, according to police.

The suspect, 37-year-old Matthew Sheltra, was arrested following an extensive investigation, police said.

Sheltra was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree sexual assault, third-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault, first-degree threatening, second-degree strangulation, first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree unlawful restraint. He was held in lieu of a $500,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
