Police ID Victim In Fatal Portland Crash

PORTLAND, CT — Police have identified the woman who was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route 17.

The victim was Abigail Rose Mann, 29, of Meriden, the police department said Wednesday.

Police initially withheld the woman’s name, pending notification of next of kin.

The accident happened around 11:45 a.m. on Glastonbury Turnpike, or Route 17, in the vicinity of Overlook Court, according to police.

Police said Mann was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry southbound when she lost control of her vehicle, which went sideways in the road.

An oncoming northbound 2016 Honda Pilot minivan with two occupants, an adult female driver and a teen passenger, then collided with the Camry, according to police.

Mann, who was alone in her vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency medical personnel treated the two occupants of the other vehicle on scene, and they were transported to an area hospital for additional treatment of “unspecified injuries,” police said.

Before the Portland crash, Glastonbury police had received a complaint of a female driver slumped over the steering wheel of the Camry at the intersection of Main Street, or Route 17, and Great Pond Road.

A Glastonbury police officer attempted to make contact with the driver by knocking on her window. Police said the driver became alert, and then drove away, ignoring the officer’s commands to stop.

The officer followed and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued driving into Portland, according to police. When the driver reached the Portland town line, the Glastonbury officer “disengaged with the vehicle,” police said. The crash happened shortly afterward.
