The smallest town in the top 10 list has a distinctive and rich past, the NerdWallet study notes.

Portland is the ninth best place for young families in Connecticut, according to a recent study by finance website NerdWallet,.

In putting together its rankings, NerdWallet says it considered home affordability, prosperity and growth, family friendliness and quality of education.
