Safest Places to Live: Where Does East Hampton Rank?
A new report examines the 100 safest places to live in the U.S. and the top 50 safest places to live in Connecticut.

Five of the top 100 safest places to live in the entire United States are found right here in Connecticut, according to a new report by SafeWise.
In its report, SafeWise says it compiled the top 100 list by using FBI crime data from all 50 states along with examining public health records and education data.
Connecticut didn’t crack the top 5, but it did enter the list at No. 6 with Ridgefield.
The top five include:
- No.1, Lewisboro Town in New York, which had the distinction of having no violence crimes
- No. 2, Wayland, Mass.
- No. 3, Norfolk, Mass.
- No. 4, Washington Township, N.J.
- No. 5, Broadview Heights in Ohio
Ridgefield was cited because it has such a low rate of violent crimes, just 0.04 per 1,000 instances. Wilton placed No. 13 with a rate of violent crimes at 0.05 per 1,000, and the Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy was cited by the authors of the report as a real positive.
Weston finished No. 13 and its violent crimes were 0.19 per 1,000 instances. Suffield was No. 70, and SafeWise singled out the town’s economic opportunities for residents.
The last entrant for Connecticut was East Hampton at No. 82 and the authors singled out the community’s commitment to volunteering.
In a separate, Connecticut-specific list, BackgroundChecks.org compiled its own top 50 safest places to live in Connecticut, also based on the latest FBI violent crime data and what the website says is other proprietary information.
Their list differs a bit from SafeWise’s list but they both agree that if you live in Ridgefield, you’re pretty safe.
