Warning Issued By Portland Police Of Planned 'Street Takeover '

The department has received information about the illegal event, according to authorities.

PORTLAND, CT — Portland police are warning residents of an illegal "Street Takeover" scheduled on Friday at the industrial park area of town, according to authorities.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, department officials wrote that a group has been collectively working on the event for an undisclosed amount of time.

"This area has direct access to the Arrigoni Bridge allowing easy access in and out of the town," officials wrote.

Portland police are preparing to shut down the event, and are urging anyone with any information about it to contact the police department as soon as possible.

"This activity is not only illegal but also dangerous and will be taken seriously up to and including the arrest of parties involved and the towing of vehicles," officials wrote.

Street takeovers have occurred in other Connecticut municipalities, often leading to arrests, and occasionally injuries.
