All In The Family For Retiring East Haven Baseball Ump, Grandson

One local family is carrying on the home plate tradition.

East Haven, CT - After 50 years, one local grandfather is stepping away from the plate, and letting his grandson make the calls.

Fox 61 News reports that after 50 years, Ed Rapuano Sr. officially retired from his longtime position as umpire on Sunday.

His grandson, Michael, took over the role, the station reports.

Three generations of Rapuano's are in the baseball calling business. Michael's dad, Ed Rapuano Jr., has been a MLB umpire since 1991, according to the MLB.
