Armed Person Barricaded In Dora Drive Basement After Domestic Dispute Surrenders To Cops

EAST HAVEN, CT — Late Monday afternoon, police were called to a Dora Drive home for a reported domestic disturbance between two adult family members. The caller said that a "physical altercation took place involving a knife, and that one of the individuals had made a threat involving a firearm," according to police spokesperson, Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.

When they got there, officers secured the scene and "determined that one individual had retreated into the basement and was possibly armed," Murgo said.

"Officers quickly established a perimeter and called in the South-Central Regional SWAT Team after attempts to make contact with the barricaded individual were unsuccessful," the police captain said, adding the South-Central Regional SWAT Team "responded to the scene immediately."

Murgo said that after several hours of "attempted communication, the barricaded individual surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident." And, no injuries were reported.

Both people involved were arrested. One was charged with disorderly conduct and released on a $2,500 bond. The other was charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace, disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer. They were held on a $50,000 bond.

Murgo said that since the incident "involved a domestic dispute in which both parties were arrested and are also considered victims of one another, their names are being withheld in accordance with victim privacy protections and department policy."
